Insects in their Environments
Each of these glass enamel and metal sculptures is intended to depict a moment in an insect’s life and is scaled to appropriate proportions to provide a macroscopic view. Therefore, background elements like leaves, grasses and objects will appear larger than life.
The insects are glass enamel on copper, while the backgrounds utilize copper, brass and steel.
The shape and texture of each part is accomplished by a variety of methods including cutting, hammering , engraving and embossing. The final assembly uses soldering, brazing and welding techniques. Metal coloring is achieved by heat or torch oxidation and the use of dyes and stains.
Several of these sculptures were featured on our original beetlesculpure website.
